May Is Flying By!

Dear Eighth Grade Parents and Students,

This past week in literature, my Eighth Graders continued to read Lord of the Flies by William Golding.  They studied notes regarding Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury.  They continued their study of A.P. Literary Devices.  They worked on finishing their grammar workbook.  They commenced watching Lord of the Flies.

This coming week in literature, my Eighth Graders will finish reading Lord of the Flies by William Golding.  Then, they will analyze it.  They will work on their next writing assignment, a narrative essay.  Some will work on finishing their grammar workbooks, while others work on finishing their punctuation workbooks.  They will study A.P. Literary Devices.  In addition to this, they will continue watching Lord of the Flies.

This past week in history, my Eighth Graders were given a History Test of Chapter 7, on Monday.  They all scored A+’s /A’s/B+’s.  Well done, Eighth Graders. 🙂 They finished reading Chapter 8 of the history book.  In addition to this, finished watching The Crossing, which is a reenactment of Washington’s crossing of the Delaware River, and his victory at the Battle of Trenton.

This week in history, my Eighth Graders will commence reading Chapter 9 of the history book, which focuses on The South. In addition to this, they will review for the next History Test.  They will also watch a series about The Civil War.

The homework for this week is as follows:

  • Spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 20 in Wordly Wise, on Friday, May 24.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 20 of Wordly Wise for Friday, May 24.
  • Complete the CROSSWORD at the end of Lesson 20.
  • Turn in any rewrites that are now late.
  • Some students need to turn in their “Speeches.”  They are past due.
