Thank You, Parents and Students!

Dear Eighth Grade Parents and Students,

Teacher Appreciation Week was a “Wow!” from the beginning to the end. A HUGE HEARTFELT THANK YOU to Karin Thomas and her PAC TEAM.  What an INCREDIBLE WEEK for us!  THANK YOU to Anne Morasco, to all the Homeroom Parents, especially mine, Maria Ardantz and Brittany Burnett.  THANK YOU to all the E.C.D.S. Parents and Students for making Teacher Appreciation Week so special.  THANK YOU for: the superb classroom door decorations (Brittany, Diego, Julie, Levi, and Maricela), the morning coffee, the bagels, cream cheese, and yoghurt, the lovely succulent plants, the donuts and fruit, the stunning flower bouquet, the delicious luncheon in the beautifully decorated library, the great student entertainment, and the very generous Amazon gift card!  Wow!  The planning, time, energy, and love that you have expressed to us is out of this world!  You are a WONDERFUL group of parents and students.  I am truly grateful to you for your astounding generosity and love.  MANY, MANY, MANY THANKS! ❤ ❤ ❤

Last week in literature, my Eighth Graders continued reading Lord of the Flies by William Golding.  They worked on finishing their speeches and their Career Projects. They worked on a special writing assignment, which took longer than anticipated.  They worked on the grammar workbooks.  We ran out of time for Literature on DVD, but will return to it this week.

Last week in history, my Eighth Graders read Sections 1 and 2 of Chapter 8, in the history book, and they took notes.

This week in literature, my Eighth Graders will continue reading Lord of the Flies.  They will return to the A.X.E.S. (Assertion, eXample, Explanation, Significance) Method of analysis of writing literature, with respect to Lord of the Flies. They will continue their study of Literary Devices.  They will finish their Persuasive Speeches.  In addition to this, they will commence watching Macbeth by William Shakespeare.

This week in history, my Eighth Graders will review for the History Test of Chapter 7.  Then, they will finish reading Chapter 8 and take notes.  They will return to the historical series of The Founding Fathers.

Important Reminder:

  • The Talent Show will take place on Wednesday, May 8, and Thursday, May 9, from 2:30p.m. to 3:15p.m. in the Amphitheater.  All are welcome to attend.
  • A special Mothers’ Day Celebration will take place on Friday, May 10, in the library, at noon.  We look forward to seeing you.

The homework for this week is as follows:

  • Spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 18 in Wordly Wise, on Friday, May 10.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 18 of Wordly Wise for Friday, May 10.
  • Finish your Persuasive Speech for Friday, May 10.
  • Study for your History Test, on Monday, May 13.

Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.

Enjoy your weekend and have a grand week ahead.
