Happy Veteran’s Day!

Dear Eighth Grade Parents  and Students,

THANK YOU to all our heroic Veterans, who have done so much for our country!  Your service, bravery, and dedication are greatly appreciated.  You are our heroes!  I wish all our E.C.D.S. families a Happy Veteran’s Day, on Sunday, November 11. 🙂

THANK YOU to all our parents who attended our Parent/Teacher Conferences, on Thursday and Friday.  It was lovely to meet up with you to discuss your children’s academic and social progress. 🙂

This past week in literature, my Eighth Graders commenced reading The Odyssey by Homer.  They also read and analyzed the poem, “The Bells” by Edgar Allan Poe.  They continued to learn how to write a “Two-Chunk-Paragraphs,” and applied it to Animal Farm by George Orwell.  They reviewed for the Literary Devices test.  They worked on their grammar and punctuation workbooks.  We ran out of time for Literature on DVD.  I am happy to report that the majority of my Eighth Graders scored A+’s/A’s on their Literary Devices Test.  I am so proud of them!  🙂

This week in literature, my Eighth Graders will continue to read The Odyssey, as Odysseus and his men encounter cope with the enchantress, Circe, and various monsters, in an attempt to return to Ithaca.  They will also continue to practice writing “Two-Chunk-Paragraphs,” with respect to Animal Farm. They will work on their grammar and punctuation editing workbooks.  In addition to this, I will distribute the guidelines for a Reaction Paper to Animal Farm.  They will watch the first installment of Hamlet by William Shakespeare, for Literature on DVD.

This past week in History Class, my Eighth Graders reviewed for History Test 3.  They also finished their History Presentations.  I am happy to report that the majority of my Eighth Graders scored A=’s/A’s on their History Test.  Well done, Eighth Graders! 🙂

This week in History Class, my Eighth Graders will read Chapter 4, which focuses on the goals of The Constitution.  They will also write The Declaration Of Independence, in their own words.
