A Wonderful Assembly!

Dear Eighth Grade Parents  and Students,

CONGRATULATIONS to all our Seventh and Eighth Graders for the brilliant performance that they delivered at Friday’s monthly Assembly.  It was POWERFUL!  The theme was “Responsibility,” and they covered the subject in a thorough, entertaining, and professional manner.  Well done, Eighth Graders!  You are great role models for E.C.D.S.  CONGRATULATIONS and MANY THANKS also goes to Ms. Deb’bora and Ms. Regan!  Your combined talent is inspiring. 🙂

This past week, my Eighth Graders continued their reading of Animal Farm by George Orwell.  They commenced writing a plot/analysis outline of Animal Farm. In addition to this, they read more of “The Raven” by Edgar Allan Poe.  They worked in their punctuation books, and reviewed Literary Terms, in preparation for their next test.  They viewed Episode V of Pride and Prejudice, and were surprised to see how the plot thickens.

This week in literature, my Eighth Graders will finish reading Animal Farm by George Orwell.  We will then analyze and discuss the characters, themes, symbols, etc.  In addition to this, they will write a narrative poem regarding Animal Farm.  They will continue to write the plot/analysis outline of Animal Farm.  They will prepare for the Literary Terms Test, which is scheduled for Friday.  Therefore, Wordly Wise homework is cancelled for this coming week, as I want my students to focus on studying the literary terms.  They will watch Episode VI of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, which will complete our study of this great work.

Last week in history class, my Eighth Graders read Sections 2 and 3.  They also wrote up their guidelines for both of these sections. In addition to this, they gave interesting presentations for “Current Events.”  Well done, Eighth Graders!

This week in history class, we will finish reading Section 4 and write the guidelines, to prepare for the next History Test.  Then, we will discuss ideas for projects based on the first two chapters of the history book.

Reminder: Trip to Washington!

There will be a meeting and video, on Wednesday, October 10, at 3:30p.m., regarding the trip to Washington D.C.  The meeting will be held in Mr. Decking’s Room ~ Room 215.

The following is the homework for this coming week:

  • Study for the Literary Terms Test, which will be given on Friday, October 12.
  • A rewrite of Episode III of Pride and Prejudice is due on Friday, October 12.
  • A summary of Episode V of Pride and Prejudice is due on Monday, October 15.

Enjoy your weekend and have a grand week ahead!
