Parent/Teacher Conferences!

Dear Sixth Grade Parents and Students,

In an attempt to shorten the length of my blog, I will not repeat any information from a previous blog.

CONGRATULATIONS and THANK YOU to all our Middle School students who ran in the Jog-a-Thon, on Friday!  We greatly appreciate your enthusiasm and participation. 🙂

THANK YOU to all our E.C.D.S. parents who sponsored your children/teenagers to run in the Jog-a-Thon.  We are very grateful for your generous donations. 🙂

This week in literature, I will finish reading aloud the short story, “The Devoted Friend” by Oscar Wilde, and my Sixth Graders will commence reading War Horse by Michael Morpurgo.  Having completed the S.I.F.T. Method of analysis, they will continue the characterization study for Tunes For Bears To Dance To by Robert Cormier.  In addition to this, they will work on writing their “Children’s Book.”  This week in class, we will focus on writing the “Rising Action” and  the “Climax,” of their books.  They will also review “Literary Terms.” In addition to this, they will watch four more chapters of Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë, on DVD, which they are enjoying.

The homework for this week is as follows:

  • Study for the spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 11 in Wordly Wise, for Tuesday/Wednesday.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 11 of Wordly Wise.
  • Some students still need to turn in the rewrites of your “Stage Plays.”  Please turn them in this week.
  • Work on the “Climax” of your “Children’s Book.”

Reminders:

  • We are now on Daylight Savings.
  • Parent/Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Thursday, March 15, and Friday, March 16.  I look forward to meeting with you.
  • Sixth Grade Camp: Monday, March 19 to Friday, March 23.
  • Spring Break: Monday, March 26 to Friday, March 30.
  • Return to school on Monday, April 2.

May GREEN be the grass you walk on, may BLUE be the skies above you, may PURE be the joys that surround you, and may TRUE be the hearts that love you.  ~ An Old Irish Blessing

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! 🙂

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and have a grand week ahead.

Sincerely,

Miss Susan 🙂
