Jog-a-Thon, Friday!

Dear Sixth Grade Parents and Students,

I cannot believe that we are already into March!  Time flies when we’re having fun! 🙂

THANK YOU to Tera Luedde and Christy Yael who attended the Sixth Graders’ W.O.W. meetings on Tuesday and Thursday respectively, this past week.  You both shared wonderful examples of strong women in your family histories.  Your presentations were both interesting and inspirational for our sweet Sixth Graders.  Many thanks! 🙂

CONGRATULATIONS to Lily Bychowski and Kaelin Manzoni, on being chosen for Students of the Month!  Well done!  Keep up the great work!  I am very proud of you both! 🙂

Last week in literature, my Sixth Graders used the S.I.F.T. Method to analyze Tunes For Bears To Dance To by Robert Cormier.  They examined symbolism, imagery, figurative language, in the book.  We started analyzing themes, but ran out of time.  They also worked on writing their Children’s Books.  In addition to this, they returned to Literary Terms, and worked on their grammar and punctuation workbooks.

My Sixth Graders did a GREAT JOB in writing their Stage Plays. 🙂  I am so proud of them!  I have bound the rewrites of the Stage Plays, however, some students still need to turn in their rewrites.  Hint! Hint! I also have four more to correct, before I am finished. 🙂

This coming week in literature, my Sixth Graders will finish the “Themes” in Tunes for Bears to Dance To, and will examine the meaning of the title of the book.  I will read aloud examples of children’s books, to inspire and reinforce the plot structure and sequence of a book.  They will also work on their “Children’s Books.”  This week in class, we will focus on the “Rising Action,” and how to write practical, believable, and intelligent events that will lead to an intense “Climax” for the main characters and the readers.  In addition to this, they will continue the study of Literary Terms, and work in their grammar and punctuation workbooks.

The homework for this week is as follows:

  • Study spelling/vocabulary of Lesson 10, in Wordly Wise for Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.
  • Complete the exercises in Lesson 10 of Wordly Wise.
  • The rewrites of your Stage Plays are due on Wednesday, March 7.
  • Work on writing your Children’s Book.

Reminders:

  • E.C.D.S.’s JOG-A-THON will take place on Friday, March 9.  This is a very worthwhile fundraiser.  For every $1,000 raised, a child will receive a lifesaving heart surgery.  All donations will be GREATLY APPRECIATED!   E.C.D.S needs parent volunteers for this special event.  If you will be available, please sign up.  Many thanks! 🙂
  • Parent/Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Thursday, March 15, and Friday, March 16, from 12:30p.m. to 4:30p.m., on both days.  I look forward to meeting with you. 🙂
