Finals Week!

Dear Sixth Grade Parents and Students,

CONGRATULATIONS to all my Sixth Graders who did an OUTSTANDING JOB on your SCIENCE FAIR PROJECTS.  Well done, Sixth Graders! ❤ CONGRATULATIONS to Miss Lida, too.  You accomplished so much in such a short time.  Welcome back to Middle School! You were missed! ❤

Last week in literature, my Sixth Graders finished reading Greek Gods and Heroes by Robert GravesThey worked on writing their Stage Plays.  They also worked on their grammar and their punctuation/editing workbooks.  They played the grammar game, “Collective Nouns,” which is a lot of fun.  They viewed the next chapter of Miss Potter, on DVD, which they love.  In addition to this, I reviewed the study guide for the Final Examination every day, and we examined the questions and answers together, in order to avoid  stress.  We also read the first chapter of our next book, Tunes For Bears To Dance To by Robert Cormier.

This week in literature, my Sixth Graders will continue to read Tunes For Bears To Dance To by Robert Cormier.  They will review for the Final Examination, which will include questions about Skellig by David Almond, Greek Gods and Heroes by Robert Graves, and Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen.  My students will also be examined regarding the poetry they have read, discussed, and analyzed in class, i.e. “The Highwayman” by Alfred Noyes, “Remorse” by Truman P. Reitmeyer, “Little Boy Blue” by Eugene Field, “The Daffodils” by William Wordsworth, and “Upon Westminster Bridge” by William Wordsworth.  In addition, a variety of literary terms and spelling/vocabulary will be covered.

The homework for this week is as follows:

  • Study for your Final Examination.
  • Your Stage Plays, are due on Wednesday, January 31.

  • The Spelling Bee will be given on Tuesday, January 23.
  • The Final Examination for Language Arts will be given on Wednesday, January 24.
