Happy New Year!

Dear Seventh Grade Parents and Students,

Happy New Year and Welcome Back to School!  I hope that this New Year will bring you all much love, happiness, good health, success, laughter, smiles, and surprises on a daily basis.  I hope that you all have had a wonderful Holiday Season with your families and friends.  Your children have returned to school happy and rested. 🙂

This past week, we began a new year in the education of your children.  They have a lot of new and exciting work to study, learn, research, ponder, explore, and discuss before June, 2018.

Bravo!/Congratulations!   A great performance was given by our Seventh Graders, during our annual Holiday Program.  Well done, Seventh Graders!  Great talent!  THANK YOU, Ms. Regan, Ms. Deb’bora, Mrs. Crawford, Mr. Piazza, and Mr. Jesse! 🙂

This past week in literature, my Seventh Graders finished reading of Inside the Walls of Troy by Clemence McLaren.  I also finished reading Hamlet to them.  Then, they worked on their punctuation workbooks.  In addition to this, they prepared for the Literary Terms Test, which they took on Friday.  I am happy to report that the majority of them scored high on the test (See Jupiter Grades).  Well done, Seventh Graders!  Keep up the great work!

This coming week, my Seventh Graders will commence reading The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde.  This is his most famous comedy, and my Seventh Graders will have to speak in a haughty British accent, while reading it aloud.  It promises to be a lot of fun!  They will start work on their next assignment Design a Magazine.  In addition to this, they will return to their study of Wordly Wise, and grammar.  I will distribute a guideline and we will begin to review for “Finals,” which will be given from Wednesday, January 24 to Friday, January 26.  They will also continue to watch To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, which they are enjoying immensely.

The homework for this week is as follows:

  • Rewrites and illustrations for Poetry, are due on Thursday, January 11.
  • Study for the spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 10, in Wordly Wise, on Thursday.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 10 of Wordly Wise, for Thursday.
  • Magazines will be due on Thursday, February 1.

  • The First Friday Assembly is scheduled for Friday, January 12.
  • Monday, January 15, we will celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.’s Day.  Therefore, no school.
  • Finals will be given from January 24 to January 26.
  • A “Field Trip” is scheduled for the San Diego Zoo, following the Finals, on Friday, January 26.  Departure from E.C.D.S. will be at 10:30a.m. approx.
  • E.C.D.S. will host an Open House on Sunday, January 28, from 1:00p.m. to 4:00p.m.
