Fall Festival!

Dear Eighth Grade Parents and Students,

This past week in literature, my Eighth Graders continued reading Animal Farm by George Orwell.  They started writing their formal outline of Animal Farm.   In addition to this, they worked on their poems based on Animal Farm.  They also watched Episode VI of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, and worked in their classroom workbooks. My Eighth Graders scored extremely high on their vocabulary tests (A’s, A+’s), and did a good job on their Wordly Wise homework (B’s, B+’s, A’s, A+’s). Well done, Eighth Graders! 🙂

This coming week, my Eighth Graders will  watch the last ten minutes of the last episode of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.  They are very excited and anxious about the ending, and have truly enjoyed watching this Award winning series.  In addition to this, they will finish reading Animal Farm, and then, analyze it with respect to themes, plot structure, characterization, symbolism, imagery, figurative language, motifs, etc.  My students will continue to work on their formal outlines of Animal Farm, using their laptops.  They will finish writing their poems by Friday. They will also review the Six Traits of Writing.

The next book for reading is Night by Elie Wiesel. It is the story of a father and son’s journey through Hitler’s concentration camps.  We will commence reading it on Monday, October 30.  We will also continue our study of Literary Terms, in addition to our classroom grammar and punctuation workbooks.

Our annual “Fall Festival” will take place on Friday afternoon, October 27, from 2:00p.m. to 4:30p.m.  All are welcome to attend!  A great time is guaranteed!  THANK YOU to Anne Morasco, Susan Bachand, and the AMAZING PAC team.

The following is the homework for this coming week:

  • Summaries of Episode IV of Pride and Prejudice are due on Monday, October 23.
  • Summaries of Episode V of Pride and Prejudice are due on Friday, October 27.
  • Spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 6 in Wordly Wise, on Friday.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 6 of Wordly Wise, for Friday.
