This coming week in literature, my Eighth Graders will continue  reading Lord of the Flies by William Golding, which they are enjoying, despite the lengthy descriptions.  They will finish editing their Novellas by Friday. They will continue to practice the analysis of literature and how to apply C. (Claim), R. (Reference), and C. (Commentary), with respect to The Odyssey and Lord of the Flies.  They will also apply the S.I.F.T. Method of analysis to The Odyssey and Lord of the Flies: S. (Symbolism), I. (Imagery), F. (Figurative Language), and T. (Themes and Tone).  They will continue to watch The Odyssey, for Literature on DVD.

This week in Drama Class, my Eighth Graders will have rehearsals for A Midsummer Night’s Dream, without scripts.  Please encourage your child to study his/her cues and lines.  The performance is scheduled for Wednesday, June 14, at 2:00p.m.

The homework for this week is as follows:

  • Please study your cues and lines for A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
  • Spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 17, on Friday, May 26.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 17 of Wordly Wise.
  • Please finish your novellas.
