Happy Mothers’ Day!

Dear Eighth Grade Parents and Students,

Happy Mothers’ Day to all the Great Mothers of our students at ECDS.  I wish you much love, happiness, smiles, laughter, and surprises on your Special Mothers’ Day.   It was lovely to see so many of you at the Mothers’ Day Luncheon on Friday.  Thank you for coming, your children were very excited about it. ❤ ❤ ❤

BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO! A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to all our ECDS students who performed in The Wizard of Oz musical production, on Friday and Saturday, at the Roger Rowe Theater.  You all gave a SPECTACULAR and BRILLIANT PERFORMANCE during every show. WOW!  MANY, MANY, MANY THANKS goes out to Ms. Regan, Ms. Deb’bora (Amazing Directors/Choreographers), Mrs. Nicky Crawford, Mr. Enrico, Mr. Jesse, (Incredible Music), Tiffany Pond (Stunning Costumes), Mr. Matthew Perdoni, and Susan and Albert Bachand/Morone (Superb Sets), Mr. Curt Barker (Wonderful Lights), Mr. Craig (Great Sound), Tenley Webb and Camilla Arnold ( Voice Coaches),  Choreograpgers and Dance Coaches (Anthony Reyes and Rachel Carpenter), Matthew and Ally (Excellent Student Stage- Managers), Ellen Lakin (Curtains), Ms. Robyn Hayes (Great Stage Volunteer) and ALL the Dedicated Volunteer Moms (Tiffany, Patty, Maya, Janet, Angela, Teresa, Ellen, Helen, etc…. I don’t know all the parents, as their children are in the younger grades) who applied the Stage Make-Up, and worked in the Green Room with our students throughout the shows.  It takes a village! BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO! ❤ ❤ ❤

This coming week in literature, my Eighth Graders will finish the analysis of The Odyssey.  They will start reading Lord of the Flies by William Golding, on Monday, as we didn’t start reading it last week, as planned (their Mothers’ Day poems were a priority).   They will continue to practice the analysis of literature and how to apply C. (Claim), R. (Reference), and C. (Commentary), with respect to The Odyssey.  They will also continue to apply the S.I.F.T. Method of analysis to The Odyssey: S. (Symbolism), I. (Imagery), F. (Figurative Language), and T. (Themes and Tone).  They will continue to watch The Odyssey, for Literature on DVD.

This week in Drama Class, my Eighth Graders will have rehearsals for A Midsummer Night’s Dream, without scripts.  Please encourage your child to study his/her cues and lines.  The performance is scheduled for Wednesday, June 14, at 2:00p.m.

Reminders:

  • There are three more performances of The Wizard of Oz, which will commence on Friday evening, May 19, at 7:00p.m.  There will be two performances on Saturday, May 20.  It is an AMAZING SHOW!  Our ECDS students have worked extremely hard and are INCREDIBLE!  Please come and support them.
  • All ECDS students who are involved in The Wizard of Oz, are excused from homework and testing for my class, during the next week.  However, all homework and tests will have to be completed after the show.  I will work with them during their Project Study period.

The homework for this week is as follows:

  • Please study your cues and lines for A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
  • Spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 16, on Friday, May 19.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 16 of Wordly Wise.
  • Complete the CROSSWORD in Lesson 16 of Wordly Wise.
  • Work on your novellas.
