The Wizard of Oz!

Dear Sixth Grade Parents and Students,

OUTSTANDING JOB to all my Sixth Graders and Mr. Rowe, for the great skits that were performed regarding “Self-Control,” at the monthly assembly last Friday.  Well done! πŸ™‚

CONGRATULATIONS to all the ECDS students who participated in the Talent Show, on either Thursday or Friday of last week.  You all did an incredible job at demonstrating your wonderful talents.  Well done!  You were FABULOUS! πŸ™‚

A BIG THANK YOU goes out to Mr. and Mrs. Varma, who provided doughnuts last Friday, for all at ECDS, in honor of Smita’s fourteenth birthday.  It was a very welcome treat at the end of the week.  Many thanks! YUM! πŸ™‚

THANK YOU to Janet Lombardi for the beautiful flowers and the lovely yellow “signed by students” ribbon, that you put together for Teachers’ Appreciation Week.  I forgot to mention it in my blog last week.  My sincerest apologies, Janet.  You are a GEM! πŸ™‚

THANK YOU to the Brainard Family for the delicious gift of See’s candy, for Teachers’ Appreciation Week. I forgot to mention it in my blog last week.  My sincerest apologies, Richene, Michael, and Mykelle. πŸ™‚

This coming week in literature, my Sixth Graders will continue to read Tunes For Bears To Dance To by Robert Cormier.   They will also apply the S.I.F.T. Method of analysis (which they started last week) to Skellig  and Tunes For Bears To Dance To: S. (Symbolism), I. (Imagery), F. (Figurative Language), and T. (Themes and Tone).  They will work on their mythological, grammar, and punctuation/editing workbooks.  I will read aloud more stories by Beatrix Potter, and my Sixth Graders will continue to watch Miss Potter, for Literature on DVD.

This week in Drama Class, my Sixth Graders will explore a short script about King Arthur.

  • We look forward to seeing our mothers for a Mothers’ Day luncheon, on Friday, May 12.
  • The performances of The Wizard of Oz, which will commence on Friday evening, May 12, at 7:00p.m.  There will be two performances on Saturday, May 13.  It is an AMAZING SHOW!  Our ECDS students have worked extremely hard and are INCREDIBLE!
  • All ECDS students who are involved in The Wizard of Oz, are excused from homework and testing for my class, during the next two weeks.  However, all homework and tests will have to be completed after the show.

The homework for this week is as follows:

  • Study for the spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 13, in Wordly Wise, for Wednesday, May 10.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 13 of Wordly Wise.
  • Work on the rewrites of your Children’s Books.
