SAT-10 Testing!

Dear Eighth Grade Parents and Students,

THANK YOU to all the parents who attended our Parent/Teacher Conferences, at ECDS, on Thursday and Friday of last week.  It was lovely to meet with you again, to discuss the academic and social progress of your child to date.

This week, the SAT-10 will begin on Tuesday, March 28, and will continue until Friday, March 31.  The tests will be given during the morning hours, so please make sure that your child arrives to school on time, in order to avoid any stress.   These tests are not difficult, however, your child will need a good night’s sleep every night and a hearty breakfast each morning of the testing schedule, as this usually enhances test-taking skills.

This coming week in literature, my Eighth Graders will return to more adventures with Odysseus, as he considers how he will deal with the 108 suitors, who are residing at his home in Ithaca.  They will continue to practice how to apply C. (Claim), R. (Reference), and C. (Commentary), with respect to The Odyssey.  They will work on their “Novellas,” and they will review cursive.  In addition to this, they will start a Language Arts WebQuest about William Shakespeare and his neighborhood. They will also watch To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, for Literature on DVD.

I am happy to report that my Eighth Graders have completed writing The Constitution in their own words.  I am very proud of them!  They will write The Amendments (27) to The Constitution, in their own words, after the Spring Break.

Drama classes for this week have been cancelled due to testing.

The homework for this week is as follows:

  • Study for the spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 13 of Wordly Wise for Friday.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 13 of Wordly Wise.
  • Work on your “Novella.”

Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and have a grand week ahead.
