SAT-10 Testing!

Dear Sixth Grade Parents and Students,

THANK YOU to all the parents who attended our Parent/Teacher Conferences, at ECDS, on Thursday and Friday of last week.  It was lovely to meet with you again, to discuss the academic and social progress of your child to date.

This week, the SAT-10 will begin on Tuesday, March 28, and will continue until Friday, March 31.  The tests will be given during the morning hours, so please make sure that your child arrives to school on time, in order to avoid any stress.   These tests are not difficult, however, your child will need a good night’s sleep every night, and a hearty breakfast each morning of the testing schedule, as this usually enhances test-taking skills.

This coming week in literature, my Sixth Graders will definitely finish reading The Tempest, as we have only five pages left to read.  Then, we will analyze the play.  Their next book for reading is Tunes For Bears To Dance To by Robert Cormier.  This week, my Sixth Graders will also work in their mythology, grammar, and punctuation/editing workbooks.  They will practice cursive writing, too.  In addition to this, they will start a Language Arts WebQuest about Scrooge.  For Literature on DVD, they will watch Miss Potter, which is about the life and work of the author, Beatrix Potter.  I will read several of Miss Potter’s most famous stories, to my Sixth Graders, before we watch the DVD.

Drama classes for this week have been cancelled due to testing.

Only one more week, before we set off for Sixth Grade Camp.  Please make sure that you have all the information regarding this trip.  Mr. Decking has sent home a list of all the items that your child will need for the week.  I am looking forward to this experience with your children.  We will have lots of fun! 🙂

The homework for this week is as follows:

  • Study for the spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 11 of Wordly Wise for Thursday.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 11 of Wordly Wise.
  • Work on your “Children’s Book.”

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and have a grand week ahead.
