Finals Week!

Dear Seventh Grade Parents and Students,

Last week in literature, my Seventh Graders continued reading  Inside The Walls of Troy.  We had planned to finish reading it on Friday, but fifty percent of the class was absent.  They also continued to write their screenplays, and worked on their grammar and punctuation / editing workbooks.  In addition, they read “The Charge of the Light Brigade” by Alfred Lord Tennyson, and finished watching To Kill A Mockingbird, on DVD.  We discussed the format of the Finals Examinations, and on Friday, I distributed a guideline for the Literature Section of the Finals.  I reviewed the Spelling/Vocabulary Section, too.

This week in my Language Arts class, my Seventh Graders will finish reading Inside the Walls of Troy, and then, 0n Monday and Tuesday, they will prepare for their Finals.  The Final Examination for my class will include questions about the literature that we have read and studied since September, i.e. Beowulf by Robert Nye, Hamlet by William Shakespeare, and Inside The Walls of Troy by Clemence McLaren.  There will be no questions with respect to Emma by Jane Austen or To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, as time will not permit.  My students will also be examined regarding the poetry that we have analyzed, i.e. “The Lady of Shalott” by Alfred Lord Tennyson, and The Charge of “The Light Brigade” by Alfred Lord Tennyson.  In addition, a variety of literary terms and spelling/vocabulary will be covered.

Last week in Drama Class, we blocked Scenes 4 and 5 of Shakespeare’s, A Midsummer Night’s Dream.  This week, Drama Class is cancelled, due to the Final Examinations.

The homework for this week is as follows:

  • Your Screenplays are due on Thursday, January 26.
  • Study for your Final Examination, please.

  • The Final Examination for Language Arts will be given on Thursday, January 26, from 8:30a.m. to 10:06a.m.
  • A field trip for indoor rock-climbing is scheduled for Friday, January 27.
  • ECDS will host an Open House on Sunday, January 29, from 1:00p.m. to 4:00p.m.  We hope that you will attend.
