Finals Week!

Dear Eighth Grade Parents and Students,

Last  week in literature, my Eighth Graders read Part IV of Tennyson’s “The Lady of Shalott.” Then, they watched a video of it on You Tube, which brought the poem to life. They continued research on their “Dream Houses,” for their Career Projects, and they worked in the punctuation/editing workbooks.  In addition to this, I distributed a detailed guideline for the literature section of the Final Examination, and we discussed all the questions and answers in class.

This coming week in my Language Arts class, my Eighth Graders will prepare for their Finals on Monday and Tuesday.  The “Final Examination” for my class will include questions about the literature that we have read, viewed, and studied in class, i.e. Animal Farm by George Orwell, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, and Night by Elie Wiesel.  My students will also be examined regarding the poetry that we have analyzed, i.e. “O Captain, My Captain” by Walt Whitman, “The Charge of the Light Brigade” by Alfred Lord Tennyson, and “The Lady of Shalott” by Alfred Lord Tennyson.  In addition, a variety of literary terms and spelling/vocabulary will be covered.

Last week in Drama Class, we blocked Scenes 4 and 5 of Shakespeare’s, A Midsummer Night’s Dream.  This week, Drama Class is cancelled, due to the Final Examinations.

The homework for this week is as follows:

  • Three interviews for the Career Projects are due on Monday, January 23.
  • Please study for your Final Examination in Language Arts.

Reminders:

  • The Final Examination for Language Arts will be given on Wednesday, January 25, at 12:27p.m. to 1: 57p.m.
  • A rock-climbing field trip is scheduled for Friday, January 27.
  • ECDS will host an Open House on Sunday, January 29, from 1:00p.m. to 4:00p.m.  We hope that you will attend.
