The Science Fair!

Dear Eighth Grade Parents and Students,

Last week in literature, my Eighth Graders did not read Elie Wiesel’s acceptance speech for his Nobel Prize for Peace, as planned, due to absenteeism. Therefore, they will read Wiesel’s speech on Monday.  Then, they will watch the interview he had with Oprah Winfrey.  In place of literature last week, my Eighth Graders read Part I of “The Lady of Shalott” by Alfred Lord Tennyson.  They also worked on their punctuation/editing workbooks, we discussed their finals and the expectations for them, and we reviewed the definition of Interjections.  They continued to work on their Career Projects, and completed the first page of a job application, which they will finish in class this week.

This week in literature, my Eighth Graders will analyze Night by Elie Wiesel, and engage in discussions regarding the Holocaust.  Then, they will read Part II and Part III of “The Lady of Shalott.”  Following that, they will complete a college application for the Career Project.   In addition to this, they will prepare for the next Literary Terms Test and Final Examinations.  I will distribute a detailed guideline for the Final Examinations, which will refresh and remind my students of their former studies, during this school year to date.

Last week in Drama Class, we blocked Scenes 2 and 3 of Shakespeare’s, A Midsummer Night’s Dream.  This week, we will work on blocking two or three more scenes for our performance.

The homework for this week is as follows:

  • Career 3 is due on Monday, January 9.
  • Spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 8 in Wordly Wise, on Friday.
