Christmas Is Coming!

Dear Eighth Grade Parents and Students,

Christmas is coming!  I cannot believe how fast our school year is flying.  Your teenagers have accomplished much this semester, but still have much to study and learn before the end of our school year.  They are doing a great job, and I am very proud of them. Keep up the good work, Eighth Graders! 🙂

Last week in literature, my Eighth Graders continued their reading of Night by Elie Wiesel.  In addition to this, all of my Middle School classes reviewed the definitions of Collective Nouns and Proper Nouns.  Then, they played the Grammar Game to reinforce these definitions.

This week in literature, my Eighth Graders will continue to read Night by Elie Wiesel. They will finish reading it by the Christmas break. Then, they will watch a documentary about Elie Wiesel, as he returns to Auschwitz concentration camp, in his old age.

My Eighth Graders are currently working on their “Career Projects,”  both in class and at home.  The first career summary is due on Monday, December 5.  Last week in class, they learned how to write a “Questionnaire” for an interview.  This week in class, my Eighth Graders will research and write up Career 2.  They will also learn how to fill out a job application.

Last week in Drama, all the Eighth Graders were finally cast for A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare. This week, we will begin to block the play.

The Encinitas Holiday Parade will take place today.  All are welcome to attend!  A big THANK YOU to Susan Bachand for designing and decorating the ECDS float! 🙂

The Holiday Program for the Eighth Graders will take place on Tuesday, December 13, at 2:00p.m. in the Amphitheater.

The homework for this week is as follows:

  • Career I is due on Monday, December 5.
  • Late rewrites of the Animal Farm papers are due on Monday, December 5.
  • Study for the spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 6 in Wordly Wise, on Friday, December 9.
  • Test on six SAT words, on Friday.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 6 of Wordly Wise, for Friday.
  • Career 2 will be due on Monday, December 12.

Always in our presentation, we must give something which does not exceed the child’s power, and yet, at the same time, calls forth effort.

~ Maria Montessori

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and have a grand week ahead!

Miss Susan 🙂
