Encinitas Holiday Parade!

Dear Eighth Grade Parents and Students,

I trust that you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with your families and friends, and that you will enjoy what remains of this holiday.  I wish a safe journey home to all our ECDS families who will have to brave the heavy holiday traffic and busy airports today.

THANK YOU to all the parents who contributed to our great Thanksgiving Feast, last Wednesday.  A special THANK YOU to Mr. Decking who organized and directed our Middle School students to make three GREAT SOUPS.  It was GRAND FEAST! 🙂

Last week, I only had my Eighth Graders from Monday through Wednesday, so we were limited in our accomplishments due to lack of time, absenteeism, and the Thanksgiving Feast.  However, my Eighth Graders started their Career Projects.

This week in literature, my students will continue to read Night by Elie Wiesel. They will also work on their Career Projects, and will learn the format and how to write a Résumé. Then, they will learn how to write a questionnaire for an interview, as they are required to conduct three interviews for the Career Project.  In addition to this, they will work in their grammar and punctuation workbooks, and return to Literary Terms.

This week in Drama class, I hope to finish casting the play A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare The casting is taking longer than anticipated.  However, most of my Eighth Graders have received their parts.

The Encinitas Holiday Parade will take place on Saturday, December 3, from 5:00p.m. to 7:30p.m.  THANK YOU to our faithful Susan Bachand, who has created a beautiful float for the parade, and has organized many of our ECDS students to participate on it.  Please come and support our ECDS students and school.  Many thanks!  You will receive more details about the parade in the ECDS Weekly Newsletter.

The homework for this week is as follows:

  • Rewrites of your Animal Farm papers are due on Friday, December, 2.
  • Write a comprehensive paper about your Career 1.  Please follow the guidelines, and include all the details that are required for this paper.  A minimum of two pages typed and doubled-spaced.  Please follow MLA style and remember to cite your sources.  Career 1 is due on Monday, December 5.

Books are the bees that carry the quickening pollen from one to another mind.  ~ James Russell Lowell

Enjoy the rest of your day and have a grand week ahead.

Miss Susan 🙂
