Parent/Teacher Conferences!

Dear Sixth grade Parents and Students,

I hope that you all enjoyed your Veterans’ Day!  THANK YOU to our brave Veterans for your service to your/our country.  You are our heroes!

This past week in Literature, my Sixth Graders continued to read Greek Gods and Heroes by Robert Graves.  They read about: The Birth of Hermes; Orpheus; Deucalion’s Flood; and Asclepius.  My Sixth Graders are truly enjoying Greek mythology.  In addition to this, they worked in their grammar workbooks, and returned to Literary Terms.  They also received the guidelines for writing a Stage Play.  I explained the guidelines to them in detail.  It was a short week, so  it went by fast.

This week in Literature, my Sixth Graders will continue to read Greek Gods and Heroes.  They will also prepare for the next Literary Terms Test. In addition to this, they will collaborate with me in writing a short in-class Stage Play, in order to learn the correct format for writing a Stage Play.  This will take most of the week to complete.  It will be fun! 🙂

Last week in Drama Class, my Sixth Graders started the formal rehearsals of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.  They made it through half of the play.  This week, they will rehearse the second half of the play.  I was very impressed with their acting and their enthusiasm.  They are little GEMS! 🙂

Reminder:  The Parent/Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Thursday, November 17 and Friday, November 18.  I look forward to meeting with  you.

The homework for this week is as follows:

  • Work on the plot of your Stage Play.
  • Rewrites of your “Spooky Stories” are due on Wednesday.
  • Review and study the Literary Terms.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and have a grand week ahead.

Sincerely,

Miss Susan 🙂
