Thank You, to Our Veterans!

Dear Sixth Grade Parents and Students,

THANK YOU to all our heroic Veterans, who have done so much for our country!  Their service, dedication, and bravery are greatly appreciated.  I wish all our ECDS families a Happy Veterans’ Day, on Friday, November 11.

CONGRATULATIONS to our Middle School “Students of the Month!” Smita Varna (8th Grade); Leela Walker (7th Grade); and Gwen Laats (6th Grade).  Well done!  You are all excellent students, and I am very proud of you! Keep up the GREAT WORK! 🙂

This past week in Literature, my Sixth Graders commenced reading Greek Gods and Heroes by Robert Graves.   They read about the six gods and six goddesses who lived on Mount Olympus.  They also read about Pan, Persephone, Demeter, and Hades.  They are enjoying this book immensely.  My Sixth Graders also finished their formal “Outlines of Skellig.”  I am so proud of them!  Well done, Sixth Graders!  They also worked on writing their Spooky Stories, and several students have already finished them.   In addition to this, they watched the DVD of Skellig, which brought the book to life for them.

This coming week, my Sixth Graders will continue reading Greek Gods and Heroes by Robert Graves.  In addition to this, they will begin to learn how to write a Stage Play.  I will instruct them on the format of writing a Stage Play.  They will also learn about staging, lighting, music, props, costumes, and casting.  Their next writing assignment is “Write a Stage Play.”  They will have several weeks to complete this project.  They will also work in their grammar workbooks, and study Literary Terms.

This week in Drama Class, I finished blocking our play A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.  Next week, we will rehearse the play from beginning to end.  I am having a blast with my Sixth Graders in Drama Class.  They are all great little actors and actresses. 🙂

Reminders:  No school on Friday, November 11.
