A Great Field Trip!

Dear Eighth Grade Parents  and Students,

CONGRATULATIONS to all our Eighth Graders for the great performance they gave at  Thursday’s  monthly Assembly.  Their theme was “Service,” and they covered the subject in a thorough and humorous manner.  Well done, Eighth Graders!  I am so proud of you!♥

Our Middle School trip to Disney’s California Adventure Park, on Friday, was a great success.  Our ECDS students learned valuable lessons that are required to become a truly good leader.  They listened attentively and answered the questions in a mature and intelligent manner.  Their participation was superb!  They were great role-models for our school!  Well done, Students!   THANK YOU to all our parents who drove on the field trip and chaperoned our students around the park.  We are truly grateful to you for your time and energy!♥

This past week, my Eighth Graders continued their reading of Animal Farm by George Orwell.  In addition to this, they began their Poetry Unit with “O Captain, My Captain” by the great American poet, Walt Whitman. They were very surprised to discover that the poem was a lament and tribute to President Abraham Lincoln.  They also worked in their grammar workbooks and reviewed Literary Terms in preparation for the test on Monday.

This week in literature, my Eighth Graders will finish reading Animal Farm by George Orwell.  We will continue to analyze and discuss the characters, themes, symbols, etc. for another week.  They will also continue their Poetry Unit with “The Charge of the Light Brigade” by Alfred Lord Tennyson.  I will be covering both Seventh and Eighth Grade poetry this year, as they informed me that they did not study poetry last year.  In addition to this, they will continue to work on their formal outline of Animal Farm.  They will also finish watching the fourth episode of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, as the Assembly and our Disney trip cut into our academic time.

The following is the homework for this coming week:

  • Study for the Literary Terms Test, which will be given on Monday, October 10.
  • Episode III of Pride and Prejudice is due on Monday, October 10.
  • Episode IV of Pride and Prejudice is due on  Monday, October 17.

Enjoy the rest of  your weekend and have a grand week ahead!
