Our New Student Council!

Dear Eighth Grade Parents and Students,

CONGRATULATIONS to all our ECDS students who were elected to sit on the Student Council (2016-2017).  Well done! Our new Student Council is as follows: John Gerdes (President); Faith Lyon (Vice President); Allie Kidd-Dragula (Secretary); Wesley Adickes (Treasurer); Claire Haverkamp and Kyan Barker (6th Grade Reps.); Ella Decking and Tanisha Prabhu (7th Grade Reps.); and Smita Varma and Armon Rahgozar (8th Grade Reps.).  I look forward to your great success this year.  I am so proud of you!

Last week, my Eighth Graders didn’t have a lot of time to read Animal Farm by George Orwell, as they were busy learning the format for a Formal Outline, using their laptops.  They have started a plot outline of Animal Farm, as we are almost finished reading the novel.  They will continue this work in class for the next two weeks.

This coming week, my Eighth Graders will continue to read Animal Farm by George Orwell.  In addition to this, they will prepare for their first Literary Terms Test, which will be given on Monday, October 10.  My Eighth Graders continue to enjoy Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen (on DVD). They have seen three episodes so far, and on Friday, reached the “Climax” of the plot structure.  There are three more episodes left in the BBC series, which will encompass the “Falling Action” and “Resolution”….the plot thickens!

Wordly Wise homework is cancelled for this coming week, as I want my students to study for the upcoming Literary Terms Test.

Our Disneyland field trip, regarding Leadership, is scheduled for Friday, October 7.  Thank You to Mr. Decking for arranging this trip, and for keeping you up-to-date with the information.  Thank You also to all our parents who have volunteered to drive.  I look forward to seeing you next Friday.

The following is the homework for this coming week:

  • Summary of Episode II of Pride and Prejudice is due on Monday, October 3.
  • Rewrite of Episode II of Pride and Prejudice is due on Thursday, October 6.
  • Study for the Literary Terms Test, which is scheduled for Monday, October 10.
  • Write a summary of Episode III of Pride and Prejudice for Monday, October 10..

Children are remarkable for their intelligence and ardor, for their curiosity, their intolerance of shams, and the clarity and ruthlessness of their vision.  ~ Aldous Huxley

Have a great weekend and a grand week ahead.
