Our New Student Council!

Dear Sixth Grade Parents and Students,

CONGRATULATIONS to all our ECDS students who were elected to sit on the Student Council (2016-2017).  Well done! Our new Student Council is as follows: John Gerdes (President); Faith Lyon (Vice President); Allie Kidd-Dragula (Secretary); Wesley Adickes (Treasurer); Claire Haverkamp and Kyan Barker (6th Grade Reps.); Ella Decking and Tanisha Prabhu (7th Grade Reps.); and Smita Varma and Armon Rahgozar (8th Grade Reps.).  I look forward to your great success this year.  I am so proud of you!

Last week, my Sixth Graders learned how to write the format of a formal plot outline, using their laptops.  They will continue to work on this assignment for the next two weeks.  They also commenced their Poetry Unit with the narrative poem, “The Highwayman” by Alfred Noyes, in preparation for their next writing assignment, “Write a Narrative Poem.”  I will distribute the guidelines for this assignment when we finish reading and analyzing “The Highwayman.”  Most of my Sixth Graders have returned the rewrites of their “Fables” with beautiful colored illustrations.  I am so proud of them! Great job, Sixth Graders!

This coming week, my Sixth Graders will continue their reading of Skellig by David Almond.  They will also work in their classroom workbooks.  In addition to this, they will finish viewing Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen.

No Wordly Wise homework this coming week!

Auditions for A Christmas Carol will resume on Monday.  I hope to have the play fully cast by Wednesday, October 12.

Reminder:  Our Disneyland field trip, regarding Leadership, is scheduled for Friday, October 7.  Thank You to Mr. Decking for arranging this trip, and for keeping you all up-to-date with the information.  Thank You also to all our parents who have volunteered to drive.  I look forward to seeing you next Friday.

The following is the homework for this coming week:

  • Rewrites of the “Fables” are now late, and are due on Monday, October 3, with a colored illustration.

Children are remarkable for their intelligence and ardor, for their curiosity, their intolerance of shams, and the clarity and ruthlessness of their vision.  ~ Aldous Huxley

Have a great weekend and a grand week ahead.
