Dear Eighth Grade Parents and Students,

Congratulations to all the students who ran for positions on the Student Council, last week.  Your speeches were great!  I am so proud of you!  Well done!  The elections will take place on Monday, September 26.  Good luck to all!

The Eighth Graders continue to score extremely high on their spelling/vocabulary tests.  Great!  I am also pleased with their Wordly Wise homework. My students scored A+’s/A’s/ B+’s/B’s.  Keep up the great work, Eighth Graders!

Last week, my Eighth Graders continued to read Animal Farm by George Orwell.  They are truly enjoying this book.  They also finished the first page of Literary Terms.  In addition to this, they commenced work in a grammar workbook and a punctuation/editing workbook.

The laptops arrived on Friday, but my Eighth Graders had a spelling/vocabulary test, so they didn’t have time to work with them during my class.  A big THANK YOU to Mr. Rick Bychowski for all the hours that he spent, in preparing the laptops for our students in Middle School.  We truly appreciate your time and dedication.

This coming week, my Eighth Graders will view Episode II of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.  In addition to this they will continue their study of Animal Farm.  They will also work in their classroom workbooks, and use their laptops for writing.  If time permits, they will commence their study of Poetry.

Reminder:  School Photos this coming week!

The following is the homework for this coming week:

  • Spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 3 in Wordly Wise, on Friday.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 3 of Wordly Wise for Friday.
  • Rewrites of Episode I of Pride and Prejudice are due on Friday.
  • Write a summary of Episode II of Pride and Prejudice for Monday, October 3.

It is not so much what is poured into the student, but what is planted, that really counts.  ~ E.C. McKenzie

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and have a GRAND week ahead!
