Congratulations!

Dear Seventh Grade Parents and Students,

Congratulations to all the students who ran for the Student Council last week.  Your speeches were great!  I am so proud of you!  Well done!  The elections will take place on Monday, September 26.  Good luck to all!

This past week, the Seventh Graders continued to read Beowulf by Robert Nye.  This week, we will analyze and have discussions about our hero, Beowulf, and the monsters, Grendel and She.  The next writing assignment is to write an outline of Beowulf.  Your child will receive an outline this week, and will have to type his /her copy of it in a different font, in order to learn the format of a formal outline.  I look forward to reading the “Myths and Legends” homework that my Seventh Graders turned in to me, this past week.  I added a grammar workbook to their work cycle.

I am happy to report that the majority of my Seventh Graders scored A+’s/A’s on their spelling/vocabulary test on Friday.  However, some students did not turn in their Wordly Wise homework, and several students had to use Study Hall time, on Friday, to complete their homework.  Please encourage your children to be diligent in completing their homework, as we, at ECDS, are preparing them for High School.  Many thanks!

The laptops arrived on Friday, and there was great excitement about them.  However, my Seventh Graders had a spelling/vocabulary test on Friday, so they didn’t have an opportunity to use them during my class.  A big THANK YOU to Mr. Rick Bychowski for all the hours that he spent, in preparing the laptops for our students in Middle School.  We truly appreciate your time and dedication.

This coming week, my Seventh Graders will continue to read Beowulf.  In addition to this, they will view the second installment of Emma by Jane Austen.  They will also work in their classroom workbooks, and use their laptops for writing.  If time permits, they will commence their study of Poetry.

Reminder:  School Photos this week!

The homework for this coming week is as follows:

  • Spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 3 in Wordly Wise on Thursday.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 3 of Wordly Wise.
  • Rewrites of your Myths/Legends (with a colored illustration) are due on Friday, September 30.

One must learn by doing the thing, for though you think you know it, you have no certainty until you try.  ~ Aristotle

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and have a GRAND week ahead!

Sincerely,

Miss Susan
