School Dance!

Dear Seventh Grade Parents and Students,

This past week in literature, I finally finished reading aloud Shakespeare’s Hamlet to my Seventh Graders.  They were shocked by the number of murders/deaths (nine) in the play, but I think they enjoyed it.  This week, my Seventh Graders will watch an animated version of Hamlet, which will bring the play to life for them.  There will be a fun five-page quiz to review the plot, themes, characters etc. in Hamlet, on Monday, November 23.  We have already begun the preparation for this quiz, and will finish it on Monday.

Our books are in at Barnes and Noble.  I will pick them up on Monday, and on Tuesday, we will commence reading Inside The Walls Of Troy by Clemence McLaren. The Literary Terms Test will be given on Wednesday, November 18.  Please encourage your child to study for this test.  Many thanks!

This week in writing, the Seventh Graders will continue to learn about writing a screenplay.  They will later watch To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, as an example of great camera angles, because the camera plays a big part in telling the story of a screenplay.

This week in history, the Seventh Graders will commence preparation for the History Test of Chapter 16, which will be given on Tuesday, November 24.  Please encourage your child to study for this test.  Many thanks!

The annual School Dance will take place on Friday, November 20, in the St. Francis Hall, from 6:30p.m. to 9:30p.m.  Admission is $5.  Each student who wishes to attend is asked to donate one item for the Refreshment Booth, for example, a packet of cookies.  Two students can split the cost of a case of water etc.  If you donate chips, we need the small individual packets, as the large packets do not work.  Thank you!

I need more chaperones to volunteer to assist me and Mrs. King at the dance, to ensure the safety of our students and all other students who will attend the dance.  Please let me know as soon as possible.  THANK YOU to Michelle and Gianna Acosta, and Laura and Michael Visco, who have already volunteered to chaperone our students on Friday evening.

All OMMS students, who are members of the Student Council, are required to remain after the dance to help clean up and set up for Bingo, on Saturday. Pick up time will be 10:00p.m. for those students.

The homework for this week is as follows:

  • Study for the Literary Terms Test, on Wednesday, November 18.
  • Spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 9 in Wordly Wise on Thursday.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 9 for Thursday.
  • Write up the history notes for Chapter 16, and study.

Enjoy your weekend and have a grand week ahead.
