Happy Veterans’ Day!

Dear Seventh Grade Parents and Students,

THANK YOU to all the parents who attended our Parent/Teacher conferences on Friday.  It was lovely to meet and chat with you about your children’s academic and social progress.  Thank you!

This coming week in literature, my Seventh Graders will commence our reading of Inside the Walls of Troy by Clarence McLaren.  It is about Helen of Troy and the Trojan War, and it is told from both the Greek and the Trojan perspectives.  There will be a Literary Terms Test on Wednesday, November 18, so please encourage your child to study for this test.

This week in writing, the Seventh Graders will continue to learn about writing a screenplay.  Last week, we discussed camera angles, etc., and began our study of how to write a screenplay.  This week, they will learn about transportation, props, sound/music, lighting, and wardrobe.  In addition to this, we will focus on the script format of a screenplay.  I have copies of the movie scripts Good Will Hunting and The Da Vinci Code for the Seventh Graders’ perusal.

This week in history, we will read Chapter 16 of our history book Medieval and Early Modern Times.  This chapter focuses on the revival of trade and towns in Europe.

Reminders:

The first quarter for class testing and grading of academics ended on Friday, November 6.  The second quarter begins on Monday, November 9.

The Renaissance Testing will take place  for the Seventh Graders, on Tuesday, November 10, at 9:00a.m. – 10:00a.m., and on Tuesday, November 17, at 9:00a.m. – 10:00a.m.  Please make sure that your child goes to bed early, the night before the testing, as a tired student doesn’t perform well on tests.

Our annual School Dance for the Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Graders will take place on Friday evening, November 20, in the St. Francis Hall, from 6:30p.m. to 9:30p.m.  Admission is $5.  In addition to this, each student was asked to donate one item for the Refreshment Stand, for example, a packet of cookies, water, soda, etc.  I will need chaperones to guarantee the safety of our students during the dance.  If you are available to help, please contact me A.S.A.P.  Many thanks!  Student Council members will have to remain after the dance, to clean up and to help set up the tables for Bingo.

The homework for this coming week is as follows:

  • Spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 8 in Wordly Wise.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 8 of Wordly Wise.
  • Complete the CROSSWORD in Lesson 8.
  • Work on the plot of your “Screenplay.”
  • Study for the Literary Terms Test on Wednesday, November 18.

The words that enlighten the soul are more precious than jewels.

Cheers,

Miss Susan
