Happy Halloween!

Dear Eighth Grade Parents and Students,

THANK YOU to all the parents who attended our Parent/Teacher conferences last  Monday.  It was lovely to meet and chat with you about your children’s academic and social progress.  We had an great turnout.  Thank you!  We look forward to meeting with the rest of our parents for the third day of conferences, on Friday afternoon, November 6, in Room 218.

Congratulations to all my wonderful Eighth Graders who did a great job in helping Mrs. Lindsey at the Harvest Hoe- Down, on Friday.  I am so proud of you!

Last week in literature, I read aloud most of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.  I will finish reading it this coming week.  Then, my Eighth Graders will watch a DVD of the play, which will bring the story to life for them.  In addition to this, there will be “Literary Terms Test,” on Monday, November 2.   Please encourage you child/children to study for it, as they need to know these terms for high school.

The next writing assignment will be “What I Learned By Reading Animal Farm By George Orwell.” I have already distributed the guidelines and definitions for this assignment, and we have discussed the expectations for it in class.  This paper is due on Friday, November 13.  Last week in class, I distributed a list of definitions for Propaganda Techniques, and we discussed how they are used in advertising and politics.

This week in history, we will prepare for the History Test of Chapter 3, which will take place on Friday, November 13.  Then, we will commence reading The Constitution of the United States.

Reminders:

1. Please take great care of my precious Eighth Graders, if they go Trick-Or-Treating tonight, as there are a lot of strange people in the world, and many come out on Halloween night.

2. Parent/ /Teacher Conferences will commence on Friday afternoon, at 2:00p.m., in Room 218.

3. There will be a Vocations Presentation, on Tuesday, in the chapel.

The following is the homework for this coming week:

  • Study for the Literary Terms Test, for Monday, November 2.
  • Spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 7 in Wordly Wise on Friday.
  • SAT vocabulary for Friday.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 7 of Wordly Wise.
