Happy Halloween!

Dear Seventh Grade Parents and Students,

THANK YOU to all the parents who attended our Parent/Teacher conferences last Monday.  It was lovely to meet and chat with you about your children’s academic and social progress.  We had an great turnout.  Thank you!  We look forward to meeting with the rest of our parents for the third day of Parent/Teacher conferences on Friday afternoon, November 6, in Room 218.

Last week in literature, my Seventh Graders read and analyzed the poem, “The Charge of the Light Brigade,” by Alfred Lord Tennyson.  Then, they watched two short videos of the fatal charge, which brought the poem to life for them.  This week, I will read aloud the story of Hamlet by William Shakespeare, as I didn’t have time for it last week, as planned, due to the conferences, the History Test, and the Hoe-Down.   My Seventh Graders will be given a fun test/quiz to review the important characters, action, and plot of Hamlet.

The Seventh Graders have turned in their Heroic Poems.  However, some students have missed the deadline and need to turn in their poems on Monday.  The next writing assignment will be “Write a Screenplay.”  This week, my Seventh Graders will learn about camera angles, locations, special effects, story boards, casting, and directors.  This week, we will focus on how to write the script itself (format), transportation, props, music, lighting, and wardrobe.  I will distribute the guidelines for the Screenplay, on Monday.

Unfortunately, my Seventh Graders did not have time to correct the History Test, on Thursday.  Therefore, they will correct it on Monday, and as soon as I have checked and graded the tests, I will post the results on Sycamore.  This week in history, the Seventh Graders will continue to learn about the Middle Ages from the book, Medieval Chronicles.  They will also continue their study of Modern Europe, in their history books.  In addition to this, they will watch another short documentary, about the Middle Ages.

1. Please take great care of my precious Seventh Graders, if they go Trick-Or-Treating tonight, as there are a lot of strange people in the world, and many come out on Halloween night.

2. Parent / Teacher conferences will commence at 2:00p.m., in my classroom, Room 218, on Friday, November 6.

3. There will be a Vocations Presentation, on Tuesday morning, in the chapel.

The homework for this coming week is as follows:

  • Spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 7 in Wordly Wise on Thursday.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 7 of Wordly Wise.
  • Start to think about the plot for your screenplay.
  • Write the history definitions and questions into your history notebook.
  • Prepare for the Litery Terms Test (TBA).

Kindness is the language which the deaf hear and the blind can see.

Enjoy your weekend and have a grand week ahead!
