Parent/Teacher Conferences 2!

Dear Eighth Grade Parents and Students,

This coming week, my Eighth Graders will discuss and analyze the characters, themes, and plot of Orwell’s Animal Farm, in preparation for their next writing assignment, “What I Learned By Reading Animal Farm.”   While we wait on our books from Barnes and Noble, for literature, I will read aloud Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.  In addition to this, we will return to the study of Literary Terms, along with our classroom workbooks.

This next week in writing, my Eighth Graders will start to write their novellas.  They will receive their guidelines on Tuesday.  This will be an ongoing writing project until April, 2016.  They will be doing this work on their laptops or on the classroom computers.

I am happy to report that 85% of my Eighth Graders scored A+’s on the History Test on Friday.  Well done, Eighth Graders!  I am so proud of you!  Last week, in history, my Eighth Graders finished reading Chapter 3, which focused on “Creating the Constitution.”  This week, we will watch documentaries about Colonial America and The Constitution.

This week in religion, my Eighth Graders will read about the Church and its expansion.

1. The next Parent/Teacher conferences will take place on Monday (all day), October 26, and on Friday (afternoon), November 6, in Room 218.  Each conference will take approximately fifteen minutes.  I look forward to seeing you. 🙂

2. No school for our beloved students on Monday, October 26.

3. My Eighth Graders will help with the Hoe Down on Friday, from 9:00a.m. to 12:30p.m.

4. We will have a celebration of Halloween on Friday, October 30.  All students are welcome to bring a treat for this celebration.
