Parent/Teacher Conferences!

Dear Eighth Grade Parents and Students,

THANK YOU to all the parents who attended our Parent/Teacher Conferences on Friday.  It was lovely to meet with you to update your child’s progress.  The next Parent/Teacher conferences will take place on Monday, October 26 (all day), and on Friday, November 6 (afternoon).  I look forward to seeing you then. 🙂

This past week in literature, my Eighth Graders watched the last episode of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.  Judging by the applause at the end of it, they were pleased with the ending.  I think they will miss Elizabeth, Mr. Darcy, and the other colorful characters, as they truly enjoyed the series.  In addition to this, we finished reading Animal Farm by George Orwell.  This week, we will analyze and discuss it in detail.  Next Friday, my Eighth Graders will watch the movie of Animal Farm, which will bring the book to life for them.  We are waiting on our book order of Night by Elie Wiesel, therefore, we will commence reading (on the Smart Board) the epic poem, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Samuel T. Coleridge.  It is a wonderful poem about the sanctity of life.  We will also review the “Eight Parts of Speech.”

This coming week, we will prepare for the History Test of Chapter 2, which will be given on Friday, October 23.  There will be no Wordly Wise homework due on Friday, as I want my Eighth Graders to focus on studying for the History Test.  In addition to this, we will finish reading Chapter 3 of the history book, which encompasses “Creating The Constitution.”

This past week in our religious studies, we finished our study of  The Ten Commandments.  This week, we will read about the growth of the Church.

Reminder: Parent /Teacher conferences are on Monday, October 26, and on Friday, November 6.  A few parents still need to sign up for the conferences.  Thank you to all the parents who have signed-up.  I look forward to meeting with you. 🙂

The following is the homework for this coming week:

  • Summary of Episode V of Pride and Prejudice is due on Monday, October 19.
  • Study for the History Test, on Friday, October 23.
  • Rewrites of Episode V will be due on Friday, October 23.
  • The summary of Episode VI of Pride and Prejudice will be due on Tuesday, October 27.
