Parent/Teacher Conferences!

Dear Seventh Grade Parents and Students,

THANK YOU to all the parents who attended our Parent/Teacher Conferences on Friday.  It was lovely to met with you to update your child’s progress.  The next days for Parent/Teacher Conferences will be on Monday, October 26 (all day), and on Friday, November 6 (afternoon).  I look forward to meeting with you then. 🙂

This past week in literature, we commenced the reading of Alfred Lord Tennyson’s epic poem, “The Lady of Shalott,” which ties in nicely with our study of “Medieval” history.  We will finish this wonderful poem this week.  In addition to this,  I will read aloud Shakespeare’s Hamlet, as we wait for our next book to arrive from Barnes and Noble.  The next writing assignment is “Write an Heroic Poem,” based on Beowulf, Grendel, or She.  This assignment will be due on Thursday, October 29.  This week, we will start watching Silas Marner by George Elliot, for literature on DVD.  Great job on the outlines of Beowulf, Seventh Graders!  I am very proud of you!

This past week in history, my Seventh Graders started Chapter 16 of their history books, which focuses on the revival of towns and trade, and faith during Medieval Times.  This coming week, we will read about the Black Death, and prepare for the next History Test, which will be given on Thursday, October 29.  In addition to this, I will start to read aloud from the book Medieval Chronicles, which I bought to enhance our medieval studies.  It is full of interesting facts, and great pictures and diagrams that will give my Seventh Graders an excellent visual of Medieval Times.  We will also watch a documentary about The Black Death, on the Smart Board.

Reminder: Parent/Teacher conferences are on Monday, October 26, and on Friday, November 6.  A few parents still need to sign up for the conferences.  The sign-up sheets are at the top of the stairs, on the right-hand side.  I look forward to meeting with you soon. 🙂

The following is the homework for this coming week:

  • Spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 6 in Wordly Wise.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 6 of Wordly Wise.
  • Study the definitions and questions/answers for the History Test.
  • Write an heroic poem based on Beowulf, Grendel, or She.

Have a great weekend and a grand week ahead!
