Parent/Teacher Conferences!

Dear Eighth Grade Parents  and Students,

Welcome to my blog via Sycamore.  I hope that you enjoy our new system.

The Parent/Teacher conferences will be held on Friday, October 16, and on Monday, October 26.  The “Sign-Up” sheets will be at the top of the stairs, on the right hand side, on Monday, October 12.  The conferences will be held in Room 218, and will take approximately fifteen minutes per student.  If you have two children in Middle School, please sign up for two slots.  Thank you!  We look forward to meeting with you.

This week in literature, my Eighth Graders will finish reading Animal Farm by George Orwell.  We will continue to analyze and discuss the characters, themes, symbols, etc. for another week.  Our next book is Night by Elie Wiesel.  It is the journey of a son and his father through the deadly concentration camps in Europe, during the Holocaust.  This week, we will watch the last episode of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I think my students will be delighted with the happy ending, but sad to part with Mr. Darcy and the Bennett family, whom they have grown to love.

This past week in history, my Eighth Graders read The Declaration of Independence.  Then, they watched a documentary about it.  They are in the process of writing twenty grievances of the colonists, as declared in The Declaration of Independence.  This week in history, we will prepare for the next History Test (Chapter 2).  The test is scheduled for Friday, October 23.  Please encourage your child to study for this test. Many thanks!

This week in religion, the Eighth Graders will finish their study of The Ten Commandments.

The following is the homework for this coming week:

  • Episode IV of Pride and Prejudice is due on Monday, October 12.
  • Episode V of Pride and Prejudice is due on Monday, October 19.
  • Study for the History Test on Friday, October 23.

Education is when you read the fine print.  Experience is what you get, if you don’t.  ~ Pete Seeger

Enjoy your weekend and have a grand week ahead!

Cheers,

Miss Susan
