Happy St. Francis’ Day!

Dear Seventh Grade Parents and Students,

HAPPY ST. FRANCIS’ DAY!   Our annual St. Francis Day celebration will take place today.  THANK YOU to all the parents who donated to our St. Francis’ Day basket.  I truly appreciate your generosity.  A very special THANK YOU to Cheri Bell and Laura Visco, who put the basket together for the auction today.  The basket is beautiful!  THANK YOU also to the PTG and to all the parents who were involved in making this celebration a very special day for all at O.M.M.S.  I look forward to seeing you there with your beloved pets for the blessings.

CONGRATULATIONS to all the students who were elected to sit on the Student Council.  I look forward to working with you.  The new president of Student Council is Anthony Visco, and the new vice president is Kyle Gilbertson.  Congratulations, lads!

This week, my Seventh Graders will finish reading Beowulf on Monday.  Then, we will discuss and analyze Beowulf, and the monsters, Grendel, She, and the Firedrake.  The next writing assignment is to write an outline of Beowulf.  My Seventh Graders will receive the guidelines for this homework on Tuesday.  In addition to this, we will commence our poetry unit with the epic poem “The Lady of Shalott” by Alfred Lord Tennyson, which ties in nicely with Beowulf and our Medieval history.  We will also work in the grammar and comprehension workbooks during class time.  I was somewhat disappointed with the overall Myths/Legends homework.  Some students did not follow my guidelines at all.  The rewrites are due on Tuesday, October 6, with a fully colored illustration.

I am happy to report that the majority of the Seventh Graders scored high (A+’s, B+’s) on their History Test on Thursday.  Last week, we finished reading Chapter 15 in our history book, which ficused on the Feudal System of the Middle Ages.  This week, we will watch a documentary about the Feudal System, and prepare for the next History Test.

The following is the homework for this coming week:

  • Rewrites of the Myths/Legends are due on Tuesday, October 6.
  • Spelling/vocabulary of Lesson 4 in Wordly Wise for Thursday.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 4 of Wordly Wise.
  • Complete the CROSSWORD in Lesson 4 of Wordly Wise.
  • Write up a formal outline of Beowulf, for Thursday, October 15.

Children are remarkable for their intelligence and ardor, for their curiosity, their intolerance of shams, and the clarity and ruthlessness of their vision. ~ Aldous Huxley

Have a great weekend and a grand week ahead!
