Congratulations!

Dear Eighth Grade Parents and Students,

CONGRATULATIONS to all the students who ran for positions on the Student Council last Monday.  Your speeches were great!  I am so proud of you!  Well done!  The votes were cast on Friday, and the results of the election will be announced on Monday, September 28, during a School Assembly in the Serra Center.  Time…TBD.

THANK YOU to Michelle Acosta and Cheri Bell for organizing the CAKE CELEBRATION for Mrs. King’s birthday, on Thursday.  THANK YOU to all the parents who made cakes for the event.  THANK YOU also to Michelle Acosta, Cheri Bell, Cynthia Gilbertson, Maria McHaffey, and the Seventh and Eighth Graders who served the cake to Mrs. King, the students, and teachers.  It was a great success, and a lovely way for Mrs. King to start her birthday.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Mrs. King!

THANK YOU to all the parents who donated to our St. Francis Day basket, “Paris.” THANK YOU also to our homeroom moms, Cheri Bell and Laura Visco, for putting a BEAUTIFUL BASKET together for us.

This coming week, we will continue our reading and analysis of Animal Farm by George Orwell.   In addition to this, we will continue our classroom work regarding journal/computer writing and grammar.  This week, I will add another workbook to our daily classroom work.  It is titled Basic Life Skills.

Last week, during history class, my Eighth Graders watched a documentary about the Great Age of Exploration.  The first History Test will be given on Friday, October 2.  Therefore, there is no Wordly Wise homework for this week, as I want my Eighth Graders to study for the test.  Please encourage your teenager to study.  Thank you.  This week in history, we will finish reading Chapter 2 of the history book, which includes The Declaration of Independence.

Last week, during religious studies, we commenced our study of The Ten Commandments, and will cover each Commandment in detail.  This week, we will read about and discuss Commandment 1 through Commandment 4.

The following is the homework for this coming week:

  • Write the Catholic version of The Ten Commandments for Monday, September 28
  • Rewrites of the summaries of Episode I of Pride and Prejudice are due on Monday, September 28.
  • Study for the History Test on Friday, October 2.
  • Write a summary of Episode III of Pride and Prejudice for Friday.

It is not so much what is poured into the student, but what is planted, that really counts.  ~ E.C. McKenzie

Enjoy your weekend and have a GRAND week ahead!

Cheers,

Miss Susan
