Student Council Campaign Week!

Dear Sixth Grade Parents and Students,

THANK YOU to all the parents and students who were responsible for the wonderful decorations in my classroom, this morning. THANK YOU so much for the beautiful birthday cards and lovely wishes.  THANK YOU, Shannon for the amazing drawing of Mother Earth.  It is a treasure! THANK YOU all for the many beautiful flowers, the Roca and Ferro chocolates (YUM!), the Starbucks cards…(one of my favorite places), and the birthday cake which was delicious, and enjoyed by all the Middle School students and teachers!!!  I feel so lucky to have such loving, thoughtful, and generous parents and students.  An extra special THANK YOU to Michelle Acosta, Cheri Bell, Cynthia Gilbertson, Jane Morse, and Laura Visco.  You made my day feel very SPECIAL!

This week, my Sixth Graders did a great job on their Wordly Wise homework and spelling/vocabulary test.  I am so proud of them!  This past week, they started work in their grammar workbooks.  Their first writing assignment “Write a Fable” is due on Thursday, September 24.  I have read twenty of Aesop’s Fables in class, so my students understand the concept.  Detailed guidelines for this assignment were distributed on Monday, September 14.  The fable must be typed and  double-spaced.  Please make sure that your child saves his/her work on the computer, as I will return the fables to my students for corrections and rewrites.  A colored illustration/picture to describe the fable will be required with the rewrite.  If you have any questions, please contact me.  On Thursday, the Sixth Graders watched the first installment of Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen for literature on DVD.

This past week, my Sixth Graders finished reading Chapter 1 in the history book, Ancient Civilizations.   In addition to this, your child learned how to take notes in his/her history notebooks, in preparation for the first History Test. Great job, Sixth Graders!  The first History Test will take place on Thursday, October 8, so, Wordly Wise homework will be cancelled that week, in order to have time to study for the test.  They will be tested on definitions and questions from the three sections of Chapter 1.  We will prepare for the test in class, but your child will also need to study at home.  Please encourage your child to study each night, as they are working on training their memories.  Many thanks.   Next week, they will watch history documentaries which will bring the history to life.

  • There will be a Welcome School Mass on Sunday, September 20, in the Serra Center, at 10:00a.m.  All are welcome to attend.
