A Very Short Week!

Dear Sixth Grade Parents and Students,

This past week was a very short one with my Sixth Grade class, because we started on Tuesday. Then, I missed my time with them due to the assembly (Tuesday) and the weather (Wednesday).  Hence, this past week, I only had my Sixth Graders on Thursday, for academics, and on Friday, for drama class.

I am happy to report that 88% of the class scored A’s/A+’s on their first spelling/vocabulary test.  I am so proud of them!  Keep up the great work, Sixth Graders!

On Thursday, my Sixth Graders continued to read Skellig by David Almond, which they are enjoying.  We also finished Lesson 1 of Wordly Wise.  This week, we will continue to read Skellig.  In addition to this, I will read Aesop’s Fables aloud, in preparation for their first writing assignment, Write a Fable, which will be due on Thursday, September 24.   I will distribute the guidelines for this assignment on Monday, September 14, and I will discuss them in great detail, so they understand the expectations.

This week, in Chapter 1 of our history book, Ancient Civilizations, we will read about early man, as hunters and gatherers.  The first history test will be assigned upon completion of Chapter 1.  Then, your children will have a week to study the definitions and questions for the test.  This week, your children will learn about taking notes in their history notebooks for their History Test.

The Sixth Graders had a blast during their first drama class last Friday.  They learned about expressing different emotions and gestures, using their faces, hands, and legs.  They also made up skits, which were hilarious!  I divided them into two teams for the skits.  They will receive their scripts for A Christmas Carol during their next drama class, on Friday, September 25.

  • Reminders: There will be a P.T.G. General Meeting in the St. Francis Hall, on Wednesday, September 23 (instead of September 16), at 6:30p.m.  Please mark your calendars.
  • Student Council applications will be available in the office on Monday, September 14, and should be returned to the office on Friday, September 18.

The following is the homework for this coming week:

  • Spelling and vocabulary of Lesson 2 in Wordly Wise for Thursday, September 17.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 2 of Wordly Wise for Thursday.
  • Study the definitions words in the history notebooks, for Chapter 1 of Ancient Civilizations, in preparation for the test, which will be assigned on Thursday.

All our dreams come true – if we have the courage to pursue them.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, and have a GRAND week ahead.
