Welcome Back to School 7th Graders!

Dear Seventh Grade Parents and Students,

THANK YOU to all the parents who attended our Orientation Night/Back to School Night, last Wednesday evening.  It was lovely to see you, and chat with you all again.  Your children all appear to be very happy and have settled in nicely for their first week back to school.  They have all grown and matured during their summer vacation.  I look forward to a great year with them.

THANK YOU also to those parents who supplied Starbucks coffee and treats for the teachers on Wednesday morning.  It was very thoughtful of you!

This past week has been too short and has moved too fast.  However, we are on the path of our Seventh Grade curriculum.  We began our reading of Beowulf by Robert Nye, and my students are definitely enjoying it.  We also started Lesson 1 of Wordly Wise, during class time.  This coming week, my Seventh Graders will finish this lesson in class, under my supervision, in order to make sure that they understand the expectations.

In addition to this, the Seventh Graders will commence work in their grammar workbooks and journals.  I will read aloud many myths and legends, in class, in preparation for their first writing assignment, “Write a Myth or a Legend.”

The Seventh Grade Social Studies curriculum begins in Chapter 14 of the history book, Medieval and Early Modern Times.  This coming week, my Seventh Graders will commence their Social Studies reading, which focuses on Europe in the Early Middle Ages.  When we finish reading each chapter, we will watch history documentaries to bring the history to life.

I look forward to a very positive and productive new school year with your children.  If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.  Thank you.

The following is the homework for this coming week:

  • Study the spelling/vocabulary in Lesson 1 of Wordly Wise, for the test on Thursday, September 10.
  • Write up the history definitions and questions/answers from Chapter 14 of the history book.
  • Read several chapters of a book of choice at home.  Please remember that reading is food for the brain.

  • There will be a School Assembly on Tuesday, September 8, at 10:00a.m., in the Serra Center, to recognize the Eighth Grade mentors.
  • There will be a Peace Assembly on Friday, September 11, to commemorate 9/11.   It will be held on the front lawn.

Enjoy the rest of your Labor Day weekend and have a GRAND week ahead!
