Happy Memorial Day!

Dear Eighth Grade Parents and Students,

Last week’s Spirit Week was a lot of fun, especially, with the culmination of our Spirit Field Day, on Friday.  THANK YOU to all our parents who donated food and their free time to serve lunch, and to help with the games, in order to make our Spirit Field Day so special for our O.M.M.S. students.  A GRAND TIME was had by all!  FUN! LAUGHTER! DANCING!  A special THANK YOU to Coach Powell, who organized the event.  THANK YOU to my Eight Graders: Aileen, Anna, Ashley, Carolynn, E.J., Gianna, and Jaden who controlled the music, and  THANK YOU to Julian Betancourt, who was our wonderful M.C.

The school year is very quickly coming to an end, and we are almost finished our curriculum.  So, hang in there, Eighth Graders!  This week in literature, my Eighth Graders will continue reading Lord of the Flies by William Golding.  In addition to this, they will learn the Cornell Note-Taking System, and they will prepare for Speech Night on Wednesday, May 27.  They will also rehearse for A Midsummer Night’s Dream.  This will be a very busy week!  Your child’s work from his/her file will go home at the end of the first week in June.

This week in history, the Eighth Graders will take the last History Test of this school year, which is scheduled for Thursday, May 28.  Open notes, so, no stress!

Last week, we finished our Family Life book.  This week in religion, my Eighth Graders will read from their text book, We Live Our Faith.  Then, we will have a discussion.

Reminders:

  • Speech Night will take place on Wednesday, May 27, in Room 218, at 6:30 p.m.  This will be followed by a short Graduation meeting.
  • Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream will be performed on Monday, June 1, in the St. Francis Hall, at 6:30 p.m.
  • The Jazz Dance Recital is scheduled for Tuesday, June 2, in the St. Francis Hall, at 1:30 p.m.  All are welcome to attend.
  • We are joining the Seventh Grade class to put together a “SPORTS BASKET” for auction at Christmas in July.  All donations are GREATLY APPRECIATED.  THANK YOU!
  • Please pay $103 per person for Disneyland, as you need to reimburse O.M.M.S. for the tickets.  Only one family have paid.  Thank you!

The homework for this week is as follows:

  • Rewrites of speeches and power points are due on Tuesday, May 26.
  • Please practice your speech for Speech Night, on Wednesday, May 27.
  • Study your cues and lines for A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
  • Turn in any rewrites of work that is past due.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, and have a Very Happy Memorial Day with your families.
