Happy Mothers’ Day!

Dear Sixth Grade Parents and Students,

HAPPY MOTHERS’ DAY!  I wish all our mothers at O.M.M.S., a very happy and special day, full of love, fun, surprises, and lots of laughter.  You are all AMAZING MOTHERS!  Every day, but especially today, MOTHERS’ DAY, you deserve to be pampered and put up on a pedestal of happiness and love.  ENJOY!

A HUGE THANK YOU to all my parents and students who showered me with daily delicious cookie treats, melt-in-the-mouth chocolate, Starbucks cards, great lip balm, fizzy soda, ripe avacados, beautiful flowers, very clever and funny puns, and an incredible Gaelic greeting.  I felt so special and so surprised each day during Teachers Appreciation Week.   MANY THANKS!  THANK YOU also to the PTG and parents who organized and brought breakfast treats for us every day, and an amazing luncheon on Friday.  Everything was delicious, sweet, and delighted all the teachers at OMMS.  We truly appreciate your very generous and thoughtful hearts.  THANK YOU!

Last Monday, I was highly entertained by the Sixth Graders’ stories of their experiences at Sixth Grade Camp.  They also serenaded me with many camp songs, and made me laugh with Knock/Knock jokes.  What a treat!  They obviously had a GREAT TIME!  It is lovely to have them all back and safe at O.M.M.S.

This week in literature, we will continue to read Tunes For Bears To Dance To by Robert Cormier.  In addition to this, we will continue to work in the classroom workbooks.  We will also review the Literary Terms, in preparation for one more test, which will be given during the first week of June.  The next writing assignment will be “Write a Narrative Poem.”  I will discuss it with my students this coming week.

Last week in history, my Sixth Graders watched a documentary about India and its people and traditions.  This week in history, they will finish reading the last section of Chapter 9 of the history book.  Then, they will read Chapter 10, which focuses on the rise of the Chinese civilization.

1. The annual Variety Show is scheduled for Wednesday, May 13.  All are welcome to attend.

2. The Crowning of Mary will take place after Mass on Friday, May 15.  All are welcome to attend.

The homework for this week is as follows:

  • Spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 17 in Wordly Wise, on Thursday.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 17 of Wordly Wise for Thursday.
  • Write the definitions and questions/answers in Chapter 9, for the next History Test.
  • Some students still need to turn in the rewrites of their Stage Plays.

All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother.

~ Abraham Lincoln

Enjoy the rest of your special day, and have a grand week ahead.
