Open House, This Week!

Dear Eighth Grade Parents and Students,

CONGRATULATIONS to my Eighth Graders, Anna Davis and Julian Betancourt, who placed First and Second in our classroom essays for the Serra Essay Contest.  They spoke from their hearts, regarding the topic, and it was recognized by the Serrans.  An extra special CONGRATULATIONS to Anna Davis, who placed in the top ten “Firsts,” from forty-eight Catholic schools, in the San Diego County.  Great job!  Mrs. King and I are so proud of you!  Thank you to all my Eighth Graders who entered this essay competition.  Mr. John Haggerty will visit our school on Wednesday morning, to present the Certificates of Achievements, and to deliver doughnuts and juice as a reward for participation in the essay contest.

Last Week, my Eighth Graders watched the movie, The Odyssey, which brought the book to life for them.  This week, they will continue to read Lord of the Flies by William Golding.  In addition to this, they will continue to work on writing The Constitution in their own words, during class time.   Their next writing assignment, “Write a Speech,” is due on Monday, May 11.  My Eighth Graders will also rehearse for the Seventh Grade play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

This week in history, my Eighth Graders will prepare for their History Test of Chapter 6, which is scheduled for Thursday, May 7.  In addition to this, they will continue reading Chapter 7 in the history book, which focuses on The Industrial Revolution.  They will also watch a history series about The American Revolution on the History Channel.

This week, Family Life will address “Marriage and Family” and “God’s Gift of Community.”

Reminder:

There will be an Open House at OMMS, on Wednesday, May 6, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  If you know of any families who are interested in our school, please encourage them to attend our Open House.  Many thanks!

The following is the homework for this coming week:

  • Study for the History Test on Thursday, May 7.
  • Write your “Speech” for Monday, May 11.
  • Write the history questions and answers from Chapter 7, into your history notebooks for Wednesday, May 13 .

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, and have a GRAND week ahead.

Cheers,
