Interim Reports!

Dear Sixth Grade Parents and Students,

THANK YOU to Fr. David Gaa, Kathleen Flanagan (C.O.O.), Mrs. Wanda King, the Governing Board members, and the parents and teachers who attended the Town Hall meeting on Thursday evening.  It was a very uplifting meeting, and I was truly impressed by all of the Governing Board members. It is exciting to hear that O.M.MS is moving forward in a very positive direction.

This coming week in Literature, my Sixth Graders will continue to read Tunes For Bears To Dance To by Robert Cormier.  It is a story about friendship, loyalty, love, responsibility, owning up to one’s mistakes, and survival.  In addition to this, my students will continue to work in their journals and with the computer.  They will also work in their new cursive books, to help improve their cursive skills. The rewrites for the Stage Plays will be due on Wednesday, April 22, and should include all my corrections and costumes for the main characters.

I am happy to report that the majority of my Sixth Graders scored A+’s/A’s on the Literary Terms Test on Thursday.  Great job, Sixth Graders! I am so proud of you!  This week in grammar, the focus will be “verbs and adverbs.”  There will be no Wordly Wise homework due this week, as my Sixth Graders will have a History Test of Chapter 7, on Thursday morning, April 23.  On Monday, we will review for this test.  Please encourage your child to study the definitions and questions/answers.  Thank you!

This week in history, we will prepare for the History Test, which is scheduled for Thursday, April 23.  In addition to this, we will watch short documentaries about Buddhism and India.  Then, we will commence reading Chapter 9, which encompasses India’s Empires and achievements.

The homework for this coming week is as follows:

  • The History notes for Chapter 7 are due on Monday, April 20.
  • Study for the History Test, on Thursday, April 16.
  • Rewrites of the Stage Plays are due on Wednesday, April 22.

The child, in fact, once he feels sure of himself, will no longer seek approval of authority at every step.  ~ Maria Montessori

Enjoy your weekend and have a grand week ahead.
