Welcome Back To School!

Dear Eighth Grade Parents and Students,

I hope that you all had a wonderful Easter celebration, and that you all enjoyed your Spring Break.  Time is marching forward quickly, and my Eighth Graders still have much to learn, explore, discuss, and finish, during the next nine weeks of school.

Congratulations to all my Eighth Graders on their EXCELLENT performance of The Passion of Our Lord, on Good Friday, on April 3.  I am very proud of you!  You were FABULOUS!  You also did an AMAZING JOB in presenting The Stations of the Cross, on Holy Thursday.  There is no end to your talents!  THANK YOU!

This week in literature, the Eighth Graders will finish reading The Odyssey.  In addition to this, they will work on writing The Constitution in their own words. Then, they will work in their classroom workbooks.  The next writing assignment is “Write a Speech.”  This week, we will begin the study of how to write a speech, in preparation for Speech Night, in May.

My Eighth Graders will return to our Wordly Wise homework and vocabulary test on Friday, April 17.  In addition to this, they will resume their vocabulary study of the SAT words.  Please encourage your teenager to study for this upcoming test.  Thank you.

This week in history, my Eighth Graders will commence reading about “The Industrial Revolution.” In addition to this, they will watch short documentaries about the Industrial Revolution.

Family Life will resume on Monday with “The Social Scene,” which addresses diversity and peer pressure.

The following is the homework for this coming week:

  • Study for the review spelling/vocabulary test in Lesson 16 of Wordly Wise, for Friday.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 16 of Wordly Wise.
  • Study the SAT spelling and vocabulary, for Friday.
  • Write and study the history definitions of Chapter 6 into your history notebooks.

Go confidently in the direction of your dreams.  Live the life you have imagined.  ~ Henry David Thoreau

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, and have a GRAND week ahead.  I look forward to seeing my “Sweet Muffins” on Monday.

Cheers,

Miss Susan
