The Brink of March!

Dear Sixth Grade Parents and Students,

I can’t believe that we are on the brink of March already!  Times flies when you’re having fun!  We are still waiting on our book orders from Barnes and Noble.  This week in literature, I will read aloud “The Selfish Giant” by Oscar Wilde.  The story is about the power, love, and importance of children.  If time permits, I will also read “The Devoted Friend,” which is about friendship, both positive and negative.  In addition to this, we will continue our study of poetry by William Wordsworth.  We will also start the study of Literary Terms.  The “Stage Plays” are due on Wednesday, March 11.

I am very happy to report that the majority of my Sixth Graders scored extremely high, A’s/ A+’s, on the History Test on Thursday.  This indicates that their memorization skills are developing nicely.  I am so proud of them!  Well done, Sixth Graders!  This coming week in history, my Sixth Graders will finish reading Chapter 5, which encompasses the history of India.  They will also watch short documentaries about the Caste System and the Untouchables (the very bottom of the Caste System).  In addition to this, they will watch a documentary about “Black History.”

1. Don’t forget to order your Yearbook 2015, to avoid disappointment ($45).

2. No school on Friday, March 13, due to Professional Growth Day for Teachers.

The homework for this week is as follows:

  • Spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 14  in Wordly Wise, on Wednesday.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 14 of Wordly Wise.
  • Write your Stage Play, which is due on Wednesday, March 11.

Nothing in life is to be feared; it is only to be understood.  ~ Marie Curie

Enjoy your weekend and have a grand week ahead.
