The Brink of March!

Dear Eighth Grade Parents and Students,

I can’t believe that we are on the brink of March already!  Time flies when you’re having fun!

This week in literature, the Eighth Graders followed Odysseus as he returned to Ithaca.  This week, they will continue to read The Odyssey, and learn the art of “xenia,” while studying the cunning intellect of Odysseus.  Today, during Literature on DVD, my Eighth Graders finished viewing Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare.   We will start Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare for Literature on DVD, next Thursday.

I am happy to report that the majority of my Eighth Graders scored A’s and A+’s on their History Test today.  I am so proud of them!  Well done, Eighth Graders!  This week in history, my Eighth Graders will finish reading Chapter 5 of the history book, which concentrates on the Thomas Jefferson years.  In addition to this, they will write The Constitution in their own words, along with their partners.  If time permits, we will watch short history documentaries to bring this history to life.

This past week, during Family Life, the Eighth Graders read and discussed more about the importance of one’s family.  In addition to this, I read aloud the No~Go~Tell Rule, on Thursday.

Reminders:

1.  Our first Graduation Meeting will take place on Tuesday, March 3, in Room 218, at 5:30p.m.  I apologize for having to postpone it this past week.

2. This year, there is a shortage of business card advertising for the Yearbook.  If you are interested in putting a “love note” (the size of a business card) into the Yearbook for your graduate, the cost is $30.  This offer is only for graduates.  First come, first served, as space is very limited.  Thank you!

3. No school on Friday, March 13, due to the Teachers’ Professional Growth Day.

The homework for this week is as follows:

  • Serra Essays are due on Monday, March 2.  These essays are mandatory.
  • The Amendments are due on Monday, March 2.
  • Spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 15 in Wordly Wise, on Thursday.
  • SAT spelling/vocabulary test on Thursday.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 15 of Wordly Wise.
  • Any items owed for the Career Project are due on Thursday.
  • Work on your power-point projects.

Enjoy your weekend and have a grand week ahead.

Cheers,
