Happy Presidents’ Day!

Dear Eighth Grade parents and Students,

THANK YOU for the delicious chocolate treats, candy, and cupcakes that you gave to me for St.Valentine’s Day.  I truly appreciate your generosity and thoughtful gestures. You made my day feel very special.  Thank you. I hope that you all had a wonderful St. Valentine’s Day with your loved ones.

This week in literature, the Eighth Graders will continue to follow Odysseus on his adventures, as he tries to return to his beloved wife, Penelope, his son, Telemachus, and his kingdom in Ithaca.  In addition to reading The Odyssey, the Eighth Graders will return to their study of Edgar Allan Poe.  They are almost finished their Career Projects.  They will complete a college admissions application this week.

This week in history, the Eighth Graders will finish reading Chapter 4 of their history book,  America.  They will finish writing The Amendments, in their own words.  The laptops are helping greatly with this project, so THANK YOU for allowing my students to bring them to school.  In addition to this, they will continue “Black History,” with another documentary on DVD, which truly brings the history to life.

This past week in religion, the Eighth Graders started Family Life.  They appear to enjoy it, as it offers many interesting topics for discussion.  Last week, we discussed the importance of family, and how one’s family is more important than material things. In addition to this, we discussed how one’s family supports, affirms, guides, and protects us in life.  Mr. Haggerty visited the Eighth Graders on Wednesday morning, as planned.  He distributed the information regarding the Serra Essay competition.  The essay is due on Wednesday, February 25.  Please remind your child to complete it (150-250 words). Thank you.
