Happy Valentine’s Day!

Dear Sixth Grade Parents and Students,

As you already know, next Saturday is St. Valentine’s Day, so, Happy St. Valentine’s Day!  I hope that you all have a wonderful day with your spouses, partners, and beloved children.  The remains of St. Valentine, the patron saint of love, lie in Whitefriar Street Church, in Dublin, Ireland.

Last week in literature, my Sixth Graders finished reading Greek Gods and Heroes.  Therefore, I read aloud Wings by Jane Yolen, but I have five pages left to finish it, so, I will do so this week.  In addition to this, I will read aloud The Nightingale and the Rose by Oscar Wilde, which is a love story for children.  Hopefully, during class, the Sixth Graders will finish writing the stage play, Just Say, No!  Their next writing assignment,”Write a Stage Play,” will be due on Wednesday, March 11.  Please encourage your child to start writing his/her stage play now.  I distributed the guidelines during the first week of January.  Thank you.

February is “Black History Month,” therefore, this past week in history, my Sixth Graders watched the first part of a biography of the life of Rosa Parks, whose brave action on a Montgomery bus, gave rise to The Civil Rights Movement of the 60’s.  They will watch the second part of it, this coming week.  In addition to this, the Sixth Graders will prepare for Part 2 of the History Test of Chapter 4, which is scheduled for Wednesday, February 11.  My Sixth Graders should have written-up their history definitions into their history notebooks last week, so, this week, they will write-up their questions and answers to study for the test.  This is a short test, so, I expect great results.  Please encourage your child to study his/her history notes. Thank you.  Wordly Wise homework is cancelled for this coming week, in order to allow time to study for the History Test.

The homework for this week is as follows:

  • Write-up the questions and answers into your history notebook and study for the History Test on Wednesday, February 11.
  • Start writing your “Stage Play,” which is due on Wednesday, March 11.

Dear Parents,

I love your children deeply.  They brighten my life every day with their happiness, laughter, and great sense of humor.  Enjoy your weekend and have a grand week ahead.

Cheers,

Miss Susan
