It’s Super-Bowl Weekend!

Dear Sixth Grade Parents and Students,

Happy Super Bowl Weekend!  I hope that you all will enjoy the Super Bowl on Sunday, and may the best team win.

This past week in literature, the Sixth Graders almost finished reading Greek Gods and Heroes by Robert Graves.  They have half a story left to read about The Twelve Labors of Hercules.  This week, I will read aloud Wings by Jane Jolen, while we wait for our next book order, Tunes For Bears To Dance To by Robert Cormier.  Wings is a detailed and beautifully written story of Daedalus and Icarus.  In addition to this, the Sixth Graders will prepare for their first Literary Terms Test. They will also work on the writing of the stage play in class. For Literature on DVD, they will continue to watch Jason and the Argonauts.

The Sixth Graders are enjoying our new Apple computers.  I have shown them the basics of how to use them, and they are off and running with them.  They amaze me!

Last Thursday, The Sixth Graders took Part 1 of the History Test regarding the history of Egypt.  We ran out of time to correct the test on Wednesday, school was cancelled on Thursday, and I do not have the Sixth Graders on Fridays.  Therefore, we will correct the History Test on Monday.  Part 2 of the History Test will be given on Wednesday, February 11.  This week in history, we will finish reading Chapter 5, which concentrates on David and Solomon, the Diaspora, and Daniel in the Lions’ Den.

Reminder: It is time again to order your Yearbook 2015.  The cost is $45.  We have ordered 115 copies, so first come, first served.  Order forms are available in the school office.  If you have photographs from this school year, that you would like to be included in our Yearbook 2015, please send them in to me.  Many thanks!

The homework for this week is as follows:

  • Spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 12 in Wordly Wise.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 12 of Wordly Wise.
  • Complete the CROSSWORD in Lesson 12 of Wordly Wise.
  • Write up the history definitions from Chapter 5 into your history notebook.

Life-transforming ideas have always come to me through books.

Have a SUPER weekend and have a GRAND week ahead.

Cheers,

Miss Susan
