Great Trip To The Getty!

Dear Eighth Grade Parents and Students,

THANK YOU to all our parents who drove and chaperoned on the field trip to the Getty Center Museum, last Tuesday.  THANK YOU to Michelle and Raphael Acosta, Karen McKinsey, Riz Bugawan, Carmela Escobar, Jane Morse, Laura Visco, Demet Yelder, Bob Brown, Guadalupe Fanning, and Sandy Young.  It was a great experience for our students, despite the long drive.  Hopefully, they will look at art in a different way now.  They had interesting workshops, saw works of art worth millions of dollars, great photography, beautiful gardens, and amazing views of Los Angeles.  Most of our Middle School students told me that they want to return to the Getty Center Museum.  I distributed free parking tickets to them, which expire on June 30, 2015.  I am so proud of all our Middle School students, their behavior on this field trip was outstanding!  A good time was had by all!  Once again, THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH, and a very special THANK YOU to my homeroom mom, Michelle Acosta.

Last Monday, the Eighth Graders prepared for our field trip to The Getty Center, with an introduction to the history and appreciation of the Impressionists and Post-Impressionists.  In addition to this, I showed them the Orientation video for The Getty Center.  Then, they watched a video about an 18th century piece of French furniture, a Mechanical Table, with its many hidden compartments.  Fascinating!

This week in literature, the Eighth Graders will start reading The Odyssey.  In addition to this, they will continue their study and analysis of Night by Elie Wiesel.  They will also focus on writing their résumes for the Career Project, and work on their novellas.

This week in history, the Eighth Graders will finish reading The Amendments to The Constitution.

This week in religion, the Eighth Graders will continue to read about the corruption within the Church, during the Crusades.  We will also prepare for the Acre Tests, which will be given in the first week of February.

The homework for this coming week is as follows:

  • Spelling/vocabulary of Lesson 11 in Wordly Wise for Friday.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 11 of Wordly Wise for Friday.
  • Career 1 is due on Friday.

REMINDER: On Wednesday, I will send home large envelopes of all the work to date, from the Eighth Graders’ files.  Please sign the envelope, to assure me that you have received the work, and return it to me on Thursday. MANY THANKS!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and have a grand week ahead.
